Ways for Kids to Play

Check out the library’s STEM Cart, which is always available in the Children’s Area and is filled with magna tiles, a marble run and much more. Grab one of the bins, sit down at a table and get creative! You’ll be sure to make some new friends this way too.

Kids who love LEGO will have a blast at our new LEGO table. The top of the table will hold your masterpieces straight and steady while you create to your heart’s content. All the pieces are stored in bins attached to the sides of the table, so you can just come in and get right to work. You can also check out the LEGO® Challenge events at BCL that happen twice monthly!

If kids are interested in some make-believe, they can let their imaginations fly at the activity station right next to the LEGO table. The theme rotates each month, so they will have fresh ways to play and pretend.

If you want your child to read and play, come to our Read to a Dog sessions. Each Tuesday, a therapy dog will join us in the Children’s Area ready to be read a story while relaxing. Register for a 15-minute slot to bolster your child’s reading skills and confidence.

In addition to these series of activities, children ages 3 - 9 can play at Sports Day on Friday, Aug. 9 from 2 - 3 pm as an end-of-summer activity. Play mini-golf, create a sports team logo, and more!

Or come dance and party with Mr. Scott the Music Man! Wednesday August 7 from 10:30 - 11:00 am, toddlers and kids ages 2 - 6 will groove and giggle along with Mr. Scott. This performance is available thanks to The Friends of the Burlington County Library Inc.

Ways for Teens to Play

The Teen Zone at BCL is just for teens. Most months, there’s a rotating grab-n-go craft on the yellow table, which you can take with you or do at one of the tables in the Teen Zone. Sometimes there are “contests” that let you vote on your favorite book in a bracket style tournament.

Calling kids and tweens ages 8 - 12! If you’re new to crocheting, or just want to join a group of fellow crochet enthusiasts, join The Chronicles of Yarnia. This month, the group is crocheting Worry Worms for their Random Acts of Crochet Kindness Project.

If you’re interested in anime, manga, and Japanese culture, join the BCL Anime Club! The program is geared toward teens ages 13 - 15 who will watch and discuss popular anime and manga, and chat about, or even wear cosplay.

In addition to these ongoing events, you can also join a Dungeons and Dragons campaign on Stormwreck Isle. Wednesday, Aug. 7 from 2 - 4 pm, teens ages 13 -15 will use pre-made characters to embark on a role-playing adventure. Be sure to register!

If you’re looking for something bookish, teens ages 13 - 15 can join the Teen Adventure Book Discussion. Chat about the graphic novel Squire by Nadia Shammas and make new friends!
