Your Library: The Ultimate Study Partner

We get it — tests are stressful. Whether you’re preparing for an AP exam, a final, the SAT or even a quiz you’re nervous about, the pressure can feel overwhelming. But BCLS is here to help. We offer a variety of resources you can use at the library or from the comfort of your home. Let’s explore some of our favorite tips and tools to help you succeed. Good luck!

  1. Try a change of scenery. Maybe your dorm room is feeling cramped, or your younger sibling is getting a little too invested in that Fortnite match. Why not reserve a quiet study room instead? BCLS offers 10 study rooms across six locations, each equipped with plenty of outlets, tables and chairs. Some rooms feature screens with webcams for Zoom meetings, while others include whiteboards and dry-erase markers to make notetaking and brainstorming easier. Many rooms comfortably seat up to four people, and select spaces can accommodate larger groups for collaborative study sessions. We recommend booking in advance - simply visit the link above and select your preferred room. You can also book over the phone or in-person.
  2. Test your knowledge with a practice exam. Practice makes perfect, right? Try taking a few pressure-free tests in the weeks leading up to the big one. Check out these resources for teens, which includes links to databases like Brainfuse: HelpNow and Peterson’s Test and Career Prep. Both services offer tons of practice tests, while Brainfuse also includes live tutoring in several subjects, the option to create your own flashcards, tests and study games, online writing assistance and more. All you need is a library card to create an account — then you can access everything from anywhere with an internet connection.
  3. Check out an exam prep book. If working on the internet comes with too many distractions, go analog with a physical book! Search our catalog — begin with a broad search for “test prep” to get started — or visit your nearest location and browse the collection. You’ll find everything from AP and SAT materials to GRE, LSAT and ASVAB books. These books often include tips and tricks, strategies, FAQs and even practice tests. You can also place a hold on any physical material to have it shipped to your location of choice if it’s already checked out or not available near you.
  4. Take a break! Sometimes you just need to step away from your work before you can go any further. It’s okay to rest up, whether that means taking a nap, watching your favorite movie or grabbing some snacks. Take some stress-free self-care time for yourself! If you’re feeling social, check out our programs and events especially for teens! Clear your mind with one of our book groups, learn a new skill, jump into a Dungeons & Dragons campaign or make a craft with your friends.
