We’re committed to offering engaging content for every reader – while recognizing that not every title is right for every customer. We’ve always supported parents who prefer to be involved in their children’s reading choices, and now we’re pleased to offer a new tool that helps families tailor their experience to match age-appropriate preferences.
Libby, the popular digital reading app which was created by OverDrive, now includes Content Controls – a feature that gives users more control over the electronic books, audiobooks and magazines they see.
Whether customizing your own experience or managing content for a child, these optional controls allow you to filter titles by audience level. For example, enabling Libby for Kids will limit browsing to books for children and teens, hiding general and mature content.
You can set content controls by going to Menu > Content Controls (under "Settings").
There are three presets to choose from:
Content Control Presets:
- Libby for Everyone (default): All titles are visible. With this preset, you choose how each audience category is handled in Libby, starting with mature content. Choose whether those titles appear in deep search; if they can be sampled, borrowed, or placed on hold; and if their cover images are shown.
- Libby for Kids: Only shows juvenile and young adult titles. With this preset, general content and mature content is hidden in the Library and Search screens of the app. No titles are hidden from the Shelf or Tags
- Libby for Grown-Ups: Hides children’s books and highlights general and mature content (YA titles can be toggled on or off).
