A New Era of Technology at the Pemberton Library!

If you’ve been to the Pemberton Library recently, you may have noticed a few changes — upgraded public PCs, new quiet study rooms, new carpet, new furniture and a redesigned service desk. But have you checked out the new technology center?

The branch celebrated with a ribbon-cutting in March. Funded through a $750,000 Community Center Digital Connect grant from the New Jersey State Library, the new new technology center is one of the project's standout features. Designed for collaboration and digital skill-building, the space supports learning in an increasingly technology-driven world. It has already welcomed a variety of classes and programs and will continue to evolve to meet the changing needs of library users. Here's a closer look at what the room has to offer.

Equipment

The highlight of the space! The library is now home to a GlowForge laser engraver, MakerBot 3D printer, Cricut smart cutter, embroidery machine and four sewing machines. Library staff offers classes for the public on each piece of equipment, like Intro to Machine Sewing or using the GlowForge to create a laser-carved tic-tac-toe board out of plastic. You also might see grab-and-go craft kits and other programs featuring materials created with these devices.

Technology

In addition to the suite of new machines, the library also received laptops and tablets for digital literacy instruction – for use in classes like Intro to Email, Resume Basics, Intro to the Internet and more. The space also houses a big-screen TV connected to a computer for larger-scale learning.

Furniture

The technology center is also equipped with new tables and chairs for a more collaborative, flexible environment. It can be arranged for everything from one-on-one learning to classes with multiple participants.

Stop by the Pemberton Library and see all the great changes for yourself — and maybe consider joining us for a program or two!
