Did you know that the library offers so much more than physical books? A library card unlocks a wide range of opportunities - many of which you might otherwise have to pay for. From learning how to make intricate crafts to visiting world-class museums for free, the possibilities are endless!
Many customers are surprised to discover how many of these resources can be accessed right from home. Want to learn how to make a leather belt? Interested in connecting with others in your community? Curious about your family history? We’ve got you covered.
Books and Audiobooks
One of the most beloved services that you can use from anywhere with a library card is the Libby app, which allows you to borrow and enjoy books, audiobooks and magazines. The app is accessible through your phone, tablet or computer, with the option to send books directly to your Kindle if you prefer reading that way.
Free Passes to Museums
Another very popular service we offer is free museum passes! Using your library card, you can borrow a set of admission tickets (some attractions allow you to download or print them) and visit destinations in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania at no cost to you. You can see which museums participate in this service here.
Book Club in a Bag
Our Borrow a Book Club program lets book groups borrow multiple copies of the same book, along with discussion questions, packaged together in a bag. This lets customers easily organize a book discussion group for two or more people! You can find the list of more than 150 titles available here.
Make a Friend
No matter what your hobbies are, there’s a program for everyone! From book groups to knitting to Dungeons & Dragons, find your connection at the library. Visit the events calendar to see what we have to offer!
Learn About Your Family History
On any of the library computers, you are able to access the library version of Ancestry.com where you can update your family tree or learn more about your background through Census data, vital records, immigration records and more. Or try HeritageQuest Online, a comprehensive treasury of American genealogical sources with unique primary sources, local and family histories and finding aids.
Learn a New Language
The library offers several resources for those looking to learn a new language or perfect one they already know, including Udemy and Pronunciator.
Udemy is an online platform that provides more than 4,000 courses taught by instructors in their native language (French, German, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish and more).
Pronunciator is a fun way to learn over 300 languages with self-directed lessons, live teachers, movies, music and more.
If you're interested in learning on-the-go, download the Bluebird app, so you can bring Pronunciator’s language courses with you on a tablet or smartphone. If you’re already registered with Pronunciator, you can log into Bluebird with the same credentials.
Craft Tutorials on CreativeBug
Creativebug is an online platform offering thousands of video classes for arts and crafts that you get for free with your library card. It provides on-demand instruction for a variety of subjects such as painting, sewing and knitting. Find projects for every occasion!
