More Than Books: How BCLS Supports Our Community All Year Long

At BCLS, we strive to be a welcoming place in every season. Throughout the year, our libraries offer comfortable public spaces where people can read, study, use Wi-Fi, spend time with family or simply take a break from the elements. We make every effort to serve our communities in ways that go far beyond books. Whether you're looking for a place to spend time, need help navigating technology, are seeking homeschooling resources or want guidance finding essential services, your local library is a great place to start. From educational programs for children to practical assistance for adults, BCLS connects residents with information, resources and opportunities that make a difference in everyday life.

Resources for Learning and Well-Being

Our libraries offer a wide variety of programs throughout the year, including hands-on STEM activities that encourage children to explore science, technology, engineering and math. Homeschooling families can turn to the library for learning resources, educational materials and programs that support their children's interests and development. Craft sessions and engaging events also offer opportunities for children and adults to learn, create and have fun. BCLS connects families with valuable health and wellness resources, too. This past summer, our Pemberton branch partnered with Virtua Health to offer screenings for dental, hearing and developmental concerns, helping families access information and connect with services that support their well-being.

Technology Help When You Need It

Access to technology can open doors to education, employment and essential services, but knowing where to start isn't always easy. BCLS offers resources and assistance to help residents build digital skills and feel more confident using technology. At our libraries, you can use public computers, access the internet, explore online learning opportunities and borrow Wi-Fi hotspots to stay connected beyond the library walls. If you're not sure how to get started, our staff can help you find the right resources. For more personalized assistance, you can schedule a one-on-one session with a librarian to learn computer basics, practice using the internet, work on a resume or develop other technology skills. Whether you're just getting started or looking to build your confidence, we're here to help.

Connecting You with Community Resources

Sometimes, finding the right information is only the first step. Knowing which organization to contact, what services are available or how to begin an application can make all the difference. BCLS's Community Resource Navigators program helps residents explore available services and connect with organizations equipped to meet their needs. Whether you're looking for housing assistance, WIC services, social services, employment support through a job center or other community resources, a navigator can help you explore your options and determine where to turn next.

A Welcoming Place Throughout the Year

Last summer, during an extreme heat wave, the Burlington County Library in Westampton opened its doors on a holiday weekend to provide a place for community members to escape the heat. Visitors could enjoy air-conditioned space, use the restrooms, refill water bottles at a water dispenser and purchase refreshments from vending machines. It was a simple but meaningful way to offer comfort and access to basic amenities when the weather made being outdoors difficult. BCLS also works to make essential resources more accessible through services and programs that respond to community needs. From information about health services and Medicare to tax preparation assistance and other educational opportunities, our libraries help residents find answers and navigate everyday challenges.
