Donating to the Library FAQs

  • General Questions

Our Friends of the Library volunteer groups accept books of popular interest and in good condition for their book sales. The proceeds from these sales are then used to support library programs and initiatives. Check with your branch library before dropping off your gently-used books. The Friends accept books throughout the year but due to space limitations, can not always take your donations.

The Burlington County Resource Recovery Complex (recycling facility at 22000 Burlington-Columbus Road in Florence) also has a "Bookdrop" bin to discard old books and is open weekdays from 7 am to 5 pm and on Saturdays from 7 am to noon.

If you would buy your donated book at a book sale be sure to offer it to our Friends of the Library. If you wouldn't purchase it, it's a candidate for recycling it at the county facility!

Neither site will accept books in poor condition. Magazines and dirty, damp or moldy books should not be brought to either the libraries or Resource Recovery Complex.

Donated items are offered to our Friends of the Library for their book sale fundraising efforts. They do not accept:

    • Moldy, damaged or generally older and outdated item
    • Textbooks or encyclopedias
    • Magazines
    • LP’s and cassette tapes and similar older media
    • Advanced Reader copies
    • Discarded materials from schools or other library systems

The BCLS Foundation accepts bequests made through your will or trust. You can make a general donation, or specify which programs you wish to support as per the foundation's Donation Policy. Contact them at foundation@bclsf.org regarding questions.

Monetary contributions may be made to your choice of the many volunteer organizations supporting the library.

Friends of the Library at our many of our branch locations accept donations via check (some accept online donations). These contributions help support local branch programs and activities.

The BCLS Foundation accepts donations to support all locations for system-wide programs and initiatives. You may support them via an online donation or in other ways such as helping build their endowment and naming the library in will or estate.
