Accessible Services (So Everyone Can Enjoy the Library)

We welcome all members of the community by maintaining a culture of inclusivity at all of our branches. For our patrons with disabilities and their families, we provide a wide variety of resources and services to explore. Curious about all we have to offer? Here are a few things of note:

Accessible Materials and In-House Services

Our collection includes an array of accessible materials patrons of all ages can enjoy! These selections include large print titles and books in Braille at some locations.

In addition to our catalog, we provide a variety of in-house services and equipment that visitors with disabilities can use to make their experience with us memorable and enjoyable. At the Burlington County Library, our Video Relay Service, a program designed for customers with hearing impairments, can be used by scheduling an appointment with a librarian. Just look for the

We also provide stellar circulation service at our Express Pick-up window at the Burlington County Library, perfect for patrons who have chronic illnesses or limited mobility! Many of our branches throughout the system also provide additional services, such as accessible entrances, Ease of Access programs on public computers, low-tech options like magnifying glasses and readers, and Talking Book and Braille Center Audio Players from the NJ State Library, which are available at all branches.

Special Needs Collection

We also offer a Special Needs Collection with materials for our patrons with disabilities of all ages and their caregivers at many of our Children’s Departments. Discover toys and educational kits, as well as read-along books that read to children, a well-loved portion of our children’s catalog that play audio recordings to accompany the stories.

Bring the Library to You

Customers are also welcome to take advantage of our Mobile Library, which brings the library experience to communities throughout the county, as well as our Borrow by Mail service, which processes and sends library items directly to your doorstep for a nominal fee! If you are homebound and can provide documentation, we waive the mailing fee.

Digital Collection and Resources

Prefer using our digital catalog? No worries! Many of our online resources, like Libby and NewsBank, can be accessed by anyone with a library card! On Libby, our reading app, text size and formatting can be easily adjusted to suit the reader’s experience. Kanopy, the library’s film streaming platform, offers closed captioning and descriptive audio options.

Accessible Programs

More interested in attending programs in person? We offer a number of sensory-friendly events system-wide for children and their families to enjoy; feel free to browse our programs & events page to find out more! Accessible events are also offered for teens and adults throughout the system.

The Burlington County Library regularly hosts Special Needs Social Hour designed by one of our librarians to encourage creative and social activities for adults with special needs.

Through its catalog, services, resources and programs, we are proud to offer accessible experiences for all to enjoy! Visit our Library Accessibility page for more.
